Cisco's trademarks are thriving as third-party domain names
Wed, 2/2/11 - 11:08pm    View comments

Cisco TrademarksMark Chandler - Cisco General CounselCisco's general counsel - Mark Chandler likes to brag that he has successfully offshored/outsourced most of Cisco's legal department.

Meanwhile, third-party domain names that incorporate Cisco's trademarks are thriving.

So why am I finding this fascinating?

Well, because most revealingly (at least in my opinion), Cisco's trademark policy officially states:

"Do not register or use any domain name that incorporates any Cisco mark or name."

Earlier this week, I blogged that the notorious CCIE Agent™ recruiting trademark has been abandoned for more than 2-years.

Nonetheless, the individual above whose notorious CCIE Agent™ recruiting trademark was refused by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (refused because Cisco already owns the CCIE® trademark), has gone on to build over the past 2-years a third-party domain name empire that incorporates one of Cisco's most valuable trademarks:

CCIE®

What's your take, why do you think Cisco's general counsel - Mark Chandler has NOT taken legal action against third-party domain names that incorporate Cisco's most valuable trademarks?
