IDCCiscoLast week market intelligence provider, International Data Corporation (IDC), reported its:

Worldwide Enterprise Videoconferencing and Telepresence QView

Cisco's 2Q12 videoconferencing revenue dropped -23.7% year-over-year, worse than the overall market decline of -10%.

While also simultaneously, Cisco's videoconferencing market share fell dramatically to 41.9% during 2Q12, down from 49.3% in 2Q11.

Furthermore, revenue in the multi-codec immersive telepresence market continued to decline rapidly with a -38.4% year-over-year drop.

PolycomMeanwhile during 2Q12, Cisco's arch videoconferencing competitor, Polycom, experienced only a -4.3% year-over-year revenue decline.

VMwareFortunately for Polycom, its videoconferencing market share actually increased to 32.5% during 2Q12, up from 30.5% in 2Q11.

However perhaps most alarmingly for both Cisco and Polycom, virtualization powerhouse VMware has announced a new video conferencing solution for its VMware View product.

According to VMware's announcement:

"This joint solution will enable IT to deliver video conferencing, voice, presence, secure instant messaging, audio and web conferencing, document sharing, voice messaging and email, all unified with complete desktop functionality. Users simply sign on once to a terminal or use their VMware View client to instantly gain access to all collaboration mediums in addition to their desktops."
