Meanwhile during 2Q12, Cisco's arch videoconferencing competitor, Polycom, experienced only a -4.3% year-over-year revenue decline.
Fortunately for Polycom, its videoconferencing market share actually increased to 32.5% during 2Q12, up from 30.5% in 2Q11.
However perhaps most alarmingly for both Cisco and Polycom, virtualization powerhouse VMware has announced a new video conferencing solution for its VMware View product.
"This joint solution will enable IT to deliver video conferencing, voice, presence, secure instant messaging, audio and web conferencing, document sharing, voice messaging and email, all unified with complete desktop functionality. Users simply sign on once to a terminal or use their VMware View client to instantly gain access to all collaboration mediums in addition to their desktops."
