Intel security vs. Cisco security So why would Cisco's #2 security executive, Scott Lovett, bolt for Intel?
New York City: Sun, 9/21/14 - 5:45pm View comments
Update 9/29/2014 - 1:40pm:
"Intel named Chris Young senior vice president and general manager of Intel Security on Monday. He will join Intel's management committee and reports to Intel President Renee James. Young will create a unified Intel Security business unit, pulling together McAfee's innovation and Intel's product security team."

Update 9/25/2014 - 12:58pm:
Now amazingly, even Cisco's #1 security executive, Chris Young, is bolting (there's a rumor he's the new CEO of Intel Security i.e. McAfee).
Turmoil hits the top leadership of Cisco Security
Update 9/23/2014 - 4:54pm:
"McAfee (i.e. Intel Security) is seeing strong growth of its next-generation firewall appliances, with interest rising in detection of advanced threats and a fully configured automated response system, according to Scott Lovett, a former Cisco sales executive who was named head of McAfee's worldwide sales."
CRN: NGFW Business Growing, Says Former Cisco Exec Leading McAfee Sales
Earlier this month Intel Security (McAfee) appointed Cisco's #2 security executive, Scott Lovett, as its new Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales (view the press release).
In 2010 Intel acquired McAfee for $7.68 billion and 9-months ago rebranded McAfee as Intel Security.
So why would Cisco's #2 security executive, Scott Lovett, bolt for Intel?
Clockwise from the top:
Especially after Cisco CEO John Chambers gushed during Cisco's Q4'FY14 earnings conference call:
"Security grew 29% driven by strength across our product portfolio with network security up 35% and content security up 12%. Product orders grew faster than revenue as we continue to see solid momentum with our advanced threat solutions including Advanced Malware Protection Everywhere, Sourcefire, ThreatGRID.
"Additionally we also saw improved growth from our core business including our high-end firewalls and ASA. A key part of our software growth strategy security ELAs grew by 250% year-over-year. We are pleased to see revenue from our Sourcefire acquisition accelerate even faster than before they were acquired, which speaks to the power of our combined security architecture in the marketplace today. We have taken security from a lower single-digit growing business to a business that we expect to grow comfortably in double-digits growing forward."
In my opinion, Scott Lovett's departure for Intel Security signals that the best days of growth for Cisco Security are over.
